Panic Attack!  Premium Content - Click for Info

A close-up look at a disorder that affects 23 million lives—including mine

Labor day weekend in our small town had been uneventful and relaxing, so it came as a shock when I suddenly experienced heart palpitations and lightheadedness. A panicked call to my physician determined that exposure to paint fumes from painting inside our home over the weekend was probably the cause. After getting some fresh air, I did feel better.

But the symptoms returned two days later while I ...

I also thought I'd never suffer from panic attacks. I have had 1-2 but mostly it's anxiety, and recently when I found out that for the past few years I've been suffering from anxiety (plus menopause), it made me depressed and fearful. Now, as the wonderful book by Claire Weekes tells you - it is the fear of fear that makes us anxious, scared and depressed. That in turn weakens our nerves which affect our mental state. I am now learning to ride with the fear and not to give it too much attention. One trick is when you feel fearful, pay attention to your belly and relax it compeletely. You will notice that it is tensed. As soon as you look at it calmly and relax it, the fear leaves. We have to keep persevering until our nerves and bodies heal, then our mind will heal too. And after that, make sure we never ever succumb to fear. Jesus talked about fear the most in the bible. I now know why. Blessings.

I have just had my first panic attack. I have developed a fear of not being able to breathe - and wouldn't you know it, a panic attack is accompanied with a horrifying feeling of... not being able to breathe!! Oh my gosh!!!! I was wild with panic, and after two weeks, still feel under the dark cloud of depression that it brought with it. I also have a fear because my daughter (28) has a fear of suffocating, and I am heartbroken to think that she may develop these panic attacks which will ruin her life. I found definite comfort in reading this article to know I'm not the only Christian woman with this problem, but am paralyzed with fear that one will come again - and by reading these reviews, it sounds like I am on a never-ending torturous path. If you have any suggestions other than the encouraging words that it can be dealt with, please write. Thank you very much.

Thank you for a wonderful post. I too used to suffer from panic attacks and anxiety disorder. I used to be a healthy woman, so I never thought it could happen to me, but one awful evening, it did, and if it happened to me, it can happen to anyone, at any given moment. To handle and overcome panic attacks and anxiety disorder, I used the revolutionary "panic away" system, and it really helped me a lot, and made my life better. And today I no longer suffer from panic attacks, and I have gained back the control over my life. http://stop-your-panic-attacks-today.com/

I see by the comments that this article has been posted for several years. Thank you for not removing it. It's the middle of the night and I've just gone through a panic attack. In desperation, feeling so alone, I searched and found your article. I am a Christian single-mom of three blessings. I have been experiencing panic attacks since 25, I am now 45. They are more than overwhelming and it's such comfort to know I am not alone. You tend to feel crazy, like you're surely going to lose your mind. I have only recently discovered Psalm 91, which brings me comfort during these times. I also cling to II Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." KJV Thank you for being so honest in your article. It has truly helped. Sometimes I feel as a Christian I can't be weak, but I am weak and I am learning it's God's strength that gets me through. Thank you.

I am a 37 year old mother of two insulin Dependent Diabectics children. I started suffering with these panic attacts about 6 mos. when I read this article there was so much relief i didn't know what to do. I've found myself in the emergency room a couple of times just to have them send me away with traquillizers to ease my symtoms. They couldn't tell me why I was having them, thats all i wanted to know. Now that I've read your article i know there is hope for me. Thank you very much. I am still alittle scared, but feel i can just take one day at a time and most of all relieve alot of the stress in my life.
