Rate how well you do the following five things to see how you're doing with mentoring people who may not like you.

I make a point to seek out a difficult person and spend a few moments talking with them, just to build a bridge between us.

I invite discussion about sensitive subjects, letting a person know that we can talk about subjects of conflict without threatening our relationship.

I keep private battles private, and don't take them public.

I practice acts of kindness toward a difficult person to help build a bridge between us.

I recognize that the best efforts may fall short because not everyone will want to live at peace with me.
